Soft rock reef under a sand cover serves up gentle lefts and rights on the inside, with outer peaks breaking over flatter reef once the swell builds. The wave runs on the sluggish side, more roll than punch, which suits longboarders and mid-length riders, though shortboarders find playful sections too. A welcoming spot for intermediates stepping up from beginner whitewater.

WHEN IT WORKS

The break faces open ocean and pulls swell from just about any western angle, including SSW, SW, W, and NW. Summer south pulses and winter northwest groundswells both deliver, while autumn typically offers the cleanest windows thanks to offshore easterlies. Low to mid tide shapes the reef best; high tide swamps the inside up against the bluff and shuts it down.

WHAT TO KNOW

Scattered cobbles and reef fingers surface at low tide, so watch the takeoff zone and mind the fins. The bluff crowds the sand at high water, leaving little escape room and the occasional loose rock from above. Localism stays mellow, though the lineup thickens fast when it turns on and the mix of longboards and shortboards can get tangled on peak swells.

GETTING THERE

Less than 5 min walk on average

Free curbside parking runs along Neptune Avenue at the north end near Grandview Street, and spots fill quickly on weekends. A long timber and concrete staircase, rebuilt in 1992 and refurbished again in spring 2026, drops in three flights to the sand in about two minutes. No restrooms on site; nearest are half a mile north at Ponto or a mile south at Moonlight.
