Sitting inside the Windansea reef complex, Little Point breaks over shallow sandstone and throws short, punchy peaks that sharpen on a mid tide. It usually stays smaller than neighboring ledges, holding a chest to head-high face with a quick shoulder and a fast inside section. Rewards clean footwork and reef reading, and suits shortboards or a fish in the hands of confident intermediates and up.

WHEN IT WORKS

West and northwest swells light this reef up, so winter through early spring produces the most consistent windows. Summer south pulses can sneak in at size but usually go smaller and softer. A mid tide with water covering the ledge shapes the cleanest walls, while dead low exposes rock. Mornings before the afternoon westerly fills in stay glassiest, and offshore easterlies groom it beautifully.

WHAT TO KNOW

Shallow sandstone sits just under the surface, so wipeouts near the peak can meet rock fast; reef booties and a careful pop-up help. Sets funnel toward the inside boil, kicking up a short rip along the point on bigger days. Windansea is Surf Club turf and regulars run the lineup, so wait a set, respect the pecking order, and skip it when it is packed. Great whites transit the coast but sightings here stay rare.

Drop in from Fernglen Avenue, a short residential dead end off La Jolla Boulevard reached by heading west on Pearl Street. Street parking sits tight against homes, so early arrival helps. A dirt path beside a private property drops onto the reef shelf in under two minutes. No restrooms or showers at the trailhead; the nearest facilities sit up the coast at the main Windansea stairs off Nautilus Street.
