Beach break near the Mission Beach jetty with consistent waves.

GOOD FOR

Sand bottom with a rock jetty on the south end that bends incoming swell into a wedging left peak. On the right pulse it walls up rippable and can throw a short pocket barrel over the inside. Holds size when smaller peaks down the beach shut down, and rewards confident shortboarders who read the wedge, pick a line early, and commit fully to the drop.

WHEN IT WORKS

Year Round Jetty

Works most of the calendar thanks to the jetty. Winter northwest swells hold overhead and stay organized where the open beach closes out, while summer south swells wrap in and wedge cleanly off the rocks. Low to mid tide is the window most sessions favor. Paddle out early, since the prevailing afternoon onshore usually textures the surface by late morning.

WHAT TO KNOW

Rocks And Regulars

The jetty itself is the obvious danger, so keep a safe cushion on takeoff and never let a set push a board or body toward the boulders. A strong channel current runs along the rocks from the Mission Bay outflow and can pull unwary paddlers off the peak. Crowds stay thick and the lineup is tightly local, so patience, clean priority, and a low profile go a long way here.

GETTING THERE

Less than 5 min walk on average

Drive to the south end of Mission Boulevard and turn into the large free lot off North Jetty Road, a two minute walk across the boardwalk to the sand. The lot fills by mid morning, so backup options are side street parking on the peninsula or metered stalls up near Belmont Park with a longer stroll south down Ocean Front Walk. Restrooms, showers, and lifeguards are right there.
