Sand-bottom peaks with a few rock outcrops that reward a well-timed drop. When mid to high tide fills the bank, short walls stand up and can throw a hollow section before shutting down close to shore. Fits confident intermediates and up on a shortboard or fish, with rides usually clocking a handful of seconds rather than long point-style connections down the beach.

WHEN IT WORKS

The beach faces west and catches NW groundswell through winter along with SW pulses across summer, though the pier and nearby jetties shadow certain angles. Mornings usually offer the cleanest window before the afternoon onshore fills in from the WNW. Tide is the bigger variable, since low drains the bank flat and mid to high on the push is when the peaks actually turn on.

WHAT TO KNOW

The main concern is the bottom itself. Scattered rocks poke through the sand in spots only regulars know, so a quick chat before paddling out is worth the trouble. High tide can pin the shorebreak against the riprap and leave almost no beach to wash up on, and the wave gets punchy fast once size arrives. Crowds stay light compared with the pier, keeping the lineup fairly mellow.

GETTING THERE

Less than 5 min walk on average

Park in the small pay lot behind lifeguard Tower 7 on The Strand, or grab a free curb spot up on Pacific Street a block back and walk down Wisconsin. From the lot a paved ramp just north of the tower drops straight to the sand, no stairs or cliff scramble involved, roughly a minute on foot. Restrooms, showers, and a seasonal snack shop sit right at the top.
