Fun beach break in Oceanside with shifting sandbars.
Sandy bottom with shifting bars that stack up peaky rights and lefts, short and punchy rather than long walls. Best on a combo of south and west energy, when knee to head high wedges hold shape and give room for a quick turn or two before folding. Suits intermediates working on beach break timing and advanced surfers hunting a fast quick reward session.

Exposure runs SSW through WNW, so the spot lights up on mixed south and northwest pulses. Late spring and summer south swells give the cleanest peaks, with fall northwest pulses adding size when winds cooperate. Morning offshores off the coastal hills or a Santa Ana are gold, and mid tide holds shape best since a full high tends to swamp the bars.
No reef or rocks in the takeoff zone, so the main concerns are stingrays buried in the shallows, a shuffle on entry keeps feet safer, plus rip currents that pulse through when the bars shift. Summer weekends draw families, bodyboarders, and beginners inside the swim zone, so crowd management and a wide berth around the flagged area matter more than any localism.
Buccaneer Park sits directly across South Pacific Street with a free lot plus curbside parking, and the sand is a 30 second walk down a short ramp. Restrooms, outdoor showers, a cafe, and picnic tables sit right at the top of the beach. During summer the zone in front of Tower 11 is roped for swimmers, so surfers paddle out at the edges beyond the flagged area.
